Here in Eugene, Oregon is a restaurant called ‘Café Yumm”. Their main entrée is a simple dish called a yumm bowl, with a basis of rice and beans and ‘yumm sauce’.
I never get tired of it It is a favorite meeting place with many of my friends because it is delicious, nutritious, even cheap. The company has prospered and has many branches here, up in Portland, and I recently heard that they opened in Seattle as well—all from a simple recipe faithfully followed. I don’t know if the owners are Christians, but I know there are Christians who work there because I’ve met them. Here is their purpose, as shown on their website: “To nourish humanity and the world.”
Haven’t I heard that somewhere before?
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8 (ESV)
To taste His goodness is not difficult—He is right here, all the time. The best things in life are savoring the beauty and goodness of God, and we certainly don’t have to look very far to find Him!
BUT, We need to share His goodness
everywhere we go. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as listening to another human being, really listening. As I listen, I have learned to pray for the proper response—not what I would say but what He would have me say—or not. Sometimes, it is not words but deeds that will be hear—an invitation to share a bowl of ‘yumm’ or a hug and an ‘I hear you and I acknowledge your pain’—that can be more powerful than any worldly ‘contribution’.
And as we share these simple dishes, we are blessed as well. It’s how He works.
His love is delicious. We need it, and so do those right in front of us. Ask Him to show you who you can feed today.
