Proverbs 10:7  The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.

I love the way that Proverbs talks about the righteous again and again.  There are so many different ways in which the righteous are referenced.   The Lord doesn’t let them go hungry (v.3)…blessings crown their head (v.6)…and the memory of them will be a blessing.  I have truly seen the truth in that last one. There is a legacy left when everyone’s life comes to an end. Thoughts can either be positive (memories blessing others) or negative (wicked person’s name will rot~that one doesn’t make me think good things) As I sit in memorial services, I find myself touched the most when people speak of righteous lives focused on honoring God while serving others.  Christlike living…righteous lives. One life can impact such large numbers of people.  That’s what I want to do. Leave a legacy of a righteous life.

I love the practicality of Proverbs. It is so straightforward and easily understood. As I strive to bless others with my life with the help of the Holy Spirit, deeper in my heart I desire to be righteous so that even after I am gone the memories of me will continue to bless.  Memories of Christ certainly did that! Lord, make me a blessing!

Have you ever wondered what will be spoken of most frequently as people you know share their memories of you?

Actually, yes I have. It is an exercise that I have done a few times in goal setting. It is always interesting as a self evaluation to see how you want your mark on this world to be, then check it against were you are, and even maybe go so far as to ask other people there opinions.

Something nice about Proverbs too is, that even though they talk about how we can bless others by doing the Word, it also sets up reminders that we all belong to God. That in the pursuit of blessing others that God stays are one and ONLY God and that we avoid becoming people pleasers. We were made to choose to be God pleasers.
