“The Heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” Psalms 19:1-2
It’s not often that I’m struck by something so much that I am in awe. It’s not often enough that I take the time to sit back and allow myself to be awed by the God who lovingly created me and cares for me. These verses are a testimony to that love He has for me and why I should be in awe. Over the last weeks I’ve had a few instances where I’m stopped dead in my tracks looking up at the blueness of the sky by day or the depth of the sky and stars at night. It could be because I live in Eugene, (where opportunities for star gazing are a gift), but I was so struck the other night by God’s creation. He made himself known to me as I looked up because “the heavens are telling of the the Glory of God.”
We’ve been reading a lot lately in Acts and Romans about how the gospel is for all people. If the heaven’s are declaring His Glory than they are for everyone as well. I’m struck by the fact that most of the world will look at the sky and be in awe in some form or another, but until they understand the depth of God’s message to us, they will never really understand the purpose God’s creation has for them.
Father, thank you for your creation. Thank you that you chose to fill the sky in a way that ispires awe and causes us to realize that there is a personal and loving God that desires to know us. Please continue to reaveal more and more of yourself through your creation, and use your works, including me to proclaim your gospel.

What is truly amazing, Ashley, is how society has tried so hard to convince everyone otherwise. Scientism and Naturalism are both the outcomes of this: Philosophies that start by ruling out certain possibilities and requiring total faith in unprovable assumptions. Even before you are old enough to entertain real rational thought you have been told thousands of times that there is no Supernatural, There cannot be a God, Science is all there is.
Interestingly enough - the non-existence of God and Super-nature is one of the very things that science, by it’s own definition, cannot prove. In fact, the scientific method can’t prove anything doesn’t exist. (Read more about it in this great article: What Science Can’t Prove.) However - these are the very things that are hammered into our heads from childhood. Anyone who thinks differently is labeled as “close-minded” or “bias”. Think about that for just a second: Who is the one that is really more close-minded - coming to the table with a greater assumption? It would seem that the unbiased observer would start out a fair bit less encumbered.
Conversely, nature screams of design. Before Aaron’s wedding this weekend I had a chance to observe some bumble bees doing their thing. It was astounding to think that some of the flowers were mostly or totally reliant on the bees for their own reproduction. Hence, they create nectar to attract them. Brilliant!
That this amazing event/cycle would lead me to believe this was the end of a totally random equation, seems completely against login. Of course, it may be the logical conclusion if I ruled Super-nature out of the question before the cat was out of the bag.
Does this mean that I should assume, from the start, that there was a God involved? No! Observe the evidence - then go with the most logical solution. This is where Scientism and Naturalism die - buried in their presumptions. Suddenly the beauty of God is revealed everywhere…

Ashley, great thoughts. I really love this passage. Kathy Whipple and I memorized it together (Psalm 19) in 1986. I, too, love to look at His handiwork each chance I get in Oregon. The high mountains in the summer are the perfect place or in front of the gazebo in August when the meteor showers come. What an awesome God we have!
