More Than Enough

Matthew 15: 34-38 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.” He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was four thousand, besides women and children.
Wow! Seven loaves, a few fish, four thousand + people, with leftovers. Nothing short of amazing! Yet I wonder what would have happened if the deciples hadn’t trusted that Jesus could meet the need with provisions that were seemingly severly lacking. What if they had simply said it couldn’t be possible and refused to act or continued to find their own way to meet the need? How often do we struggle with trusting God in our lives because the means don’t seem apparent or sadly lacking at best. If the disciples hadn’t trusted and passed out bread and fish anyway would the miracle still have happened? Would Jesus have chosen to meet the need anyway? I suppose we’ll never know until we reach eternity, but what an amazing thought to think that God choses to work through His people to reach the world regardless of seemingly insufficient talent or resources and most of the time all we need to do is step out in faith and trust Him. When the disciples stepped out in faith, He not only met the need, but He provided in abundance.
May He be your everything and more as you strive to serve Him this week. Remember that we have a big God who is waiting to do great things in and through us if we are just willing to have faith and take the steps.

And even MORE amazing is that God can choose to not just work, but to do amazing miracles, through the “seemingly insufficient talent or resources” of His people. What we view as a permanent weakness or a failure or an insurmountable problem, He is most able to overcome in the blink of an eye.
Thank you for your journal entry, Jennifer! May we always remember that our God is the God of miracles, whether they be one changed heart, or food for thousands of hungry people. May He be glorified all ways and always!
