Love vs. Knowledge

I Corinthians 8:1b-3  “While knowledge may make us feel important, it is love that really builds up the church.  Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much.  But the person who loves God is the one God knows and cares for.”

Love wins.  Paul is so clear here as he writes about love and knowledge.  Love matters.  Love trumps all the stuff I’ve been taught, all the things I know, all the potential “answers” I may have.  Love is so much more important than all the “brainiac” type stuff.  It is good to know things and it is important to study and the value of knowledge is really good.  But theses verses put things into perspective and simply states…  “it is love that really builds up the church.”  That is powerful!!!  And the lover of God is the one that God knows and takes care of.  The heart is what God is after, the head can follow along later.  Paul wanted the church to be acting in love and to challenge them to let love rule the day and guide the knowledge part of things.  That is why in chapter 13 he spends a whole chapter on the importance and value of love.  Which is really cool!!!

So my life needs to be less about right answers and trying to prove how much I know and more about right motives and showing how much I love and care for those around me.

Lord help me to be more loving.  Please give me the ability to be motivated by my love for you as it relates to my actions and attitudes.  Thank you for giving me a mind to reason, discover, understand, contemplate, and know You.  But help me to have all of that knowledge and information to be dispersed through the filter of love!!!

Thank you Jesus for loving me.

Amen.
