Playing your part in God’s kingdom wisely and well

First Baptist Church is an intentionally missional community. This is because we are focused on the mission Jesus set forth in the words, “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19). Being disciples who make disciples doesn’t just happen. We must be very intentional about how we prepare for and live out the Christian life. To help you in this quest, we have put together a workshop which will enhance your understanding of God’s purposes and your part in them.

“God’s Global Purpose” is a four-week workshop which will cover four major
topics.

Biblical Basis
God reveals Himself to be a loving, promise-keeping God to all people. Dr. Roger Trautmann will teach our first segment of God’s Global Purpose. He is a professor at Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland as well as an adjunct professor teaching Bible and Pastoral Theology at schools in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda through International Christian Ministries (www.icmusa.org). Dr. Trautmann will draw our hearts to God’s missional heart as seen in Scripture (Genesis – Revelations).

Historical Perspective
During the next session we will trace the progress of the gospel from Jerusalem to Eugene, Oregon. Debbie Eickmeyer will review church history and the remaining task. This is not a dry history class, but rather, through stories from the lives of great Christians, a view of the gospel movement throughout the world. Debbie has been in ministry over 30 years and is also a professional educator.

Culture
Ron Whisler has worked in southeast Asia with Wycliffe Bible Translators for over 25 years. He has learned that ministry in a cross culture setting can be tricky, but if we are aware of potential problems we can limit our mistakes. Ron will talk about cross-cultural considerations and how we can have effective ministry in a cross-cultural setting.

Un-reached People
Dr. Galen Currah will teach our final class. Dr. Currah began a house church in Africa in 1979 that has reproduced itself into some 60 congregations and cell groups. Dr. Currah has observed and trained in spontaneous church multiplication movements in Asia and Arica, while teaching part time at Western Seminary in Portland. He will lay out concrete strategies that you can implement through living missionally.

By investing just a few hours each Sunday in February, you can reap dividends in your own prayer life, worship, and motivation to seek first the kingdom of God.
